A Darkened Sky

Lovers in time go their way...

lighting our lives for a moment at the end of the day...

like the white heat of a star in a dark glacial sky...

and our soul is on fire as they pass by.

We give in to the passion of the flame in it's array...

but in fear of reverence we quickly turn away...

and we burn our desire as the fire glows cold...

afraid to be branded, bought and sold.

Our star burns out and leaves an empty space...

and it seems that not another can take it's place...

so we try to fill the void as does the sky...

and another star is born to pass near by.

We carelessly extinguish these stars it seems...

reliving their glowing embers in our dreams...

In a ghostly light we recall the past…

awaken and weep for lovers that didn't last.

Now space seems vast to the naked eye...

Galaxies wide… miles high...

so much space to fill it seems...

so many hearts with darkened dreams.

So at times I look up and wonder why…

why we let these lovers pass us by...

why we let the radiance and the ecstasy die...

while we go our way alone... in a darkened sky.
